I know I often speak of remembering. It's something I find helpful when difficult times arise. Remembering what God has already done in my life tends to help me refocus. It helps adjust the lens and gives me a better perspective. It helps me to continue to believe and not fear (Luke 8:50). It reminds me that if God ever did it once He will do it again. All that is required from us is belief (Mark 9:23).
With fatal disease, unexpected death and all of the other ills of this imperfect world, it is quite possible for us, in our own strength, to become exhausted, lose our grip and let go. It can be easy during these times for Satan to convince us to discard our faith. However, Hebrews 10:35 admonishes us: Do not lose your courage, then, because it brings with it a great reward. (Hebrews 10:35 GNBDC). Satan also knows that our reward will be great if we are steadfast during such times. He knows that after walking through these types of valleys, great reward usually follows. So he is there, encouraging and in anticipation of us giving up. The storms of life may come against us and the devil may try to move us, but we should hold on (Hebrews 10:23).
